Dear IC Community,
We hope you are all safe and that the current events are prompting important family conversations and are offering significant learning opportunities to our students.Unfortunately, the unpredictable situation in Lebanon may prevent us from opening the school on Monday and beyond. As we have been doing these past days, we will continue to closely assess the situation as it develops and will let you know when classes are able to resume.
In the meantime, IC wishes to balance its responsibility to educate its students with families rights to express themselves and participate in the current events. With this balance in mind, the school leadership has decided to implement a virtual learning program in the event of further school cancellations. In order to continue our students' education, teachers will continue to post work via Moodle or Google Classroom. For our Nursery / petite section through grade 7 / 5eme students, this work will be designed to reinforce and practice concepts and understandings already introduced in class. Teachers will be preparing online material that should take an average of 20 minutes per class/subject to complete. Online material for the day will match the classes that would regularly be scheduled for that day.For grade 8 /4eme through grade 12 / terminale / IB 2, along with the reinforcement material, teachers may also introduce new material for students. This work may consist of (but is not limited to) a reading assignment followed by questions, exercises, a research assignment, etc. Teachers will be encouraged to add discussion forums to the learning tasks in order that students may continue to interact with each other around the material they are studying. To ensure there is a balance between the important school learning and the invaluable out-of-school learning taking place, work on online instructional material will not exceed 4 hours (eg. from 8 am to 12 noon), allowing students to use the full afternoon to spend as they wish. Please also know that when classes resume, all new material presented online will be reviewed by teachers to ensure coverage and strengthen students' understanding of these new concepts. Finally, as previously indicated, the IC leadership is continuing to develop a plan that will allow making up for these lost days of critical teaching and learning time.
